A 3D model of the thoracic vertebrae in the human spine. Work in progress.

3D model of the pre- and postcapillary branches of the pulmonary and bronchial arteries (red), and the pulmonary vein (blue), respectively, supplying the pulmonary acinus in the human lung.

This 3D model shows a 1/8th of the human pulmonary acinus - the smallest morpho-functional unit of the lungs, in which all pathways participate in gas exchange. This is a work-in-progress. Aside from the epithelium (in salmon), I have modelled the smooth muscle in the bronchiolar wall (red), and the pulmonary artery (blue, but coloured in red in a later model of the vasculature).

My model is based on studies by Antoon F. M. Moorman's group at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. Anatomical Art, Biomedical Illustration, Scientific Art.
